Ipanema Beach! 7/11/10

The view of Ipanema beach from our hotel roof.

After an amazing night’s sleep (we were pretty tired the day before) we woke up refreshed and took a look out the window! WOW! What a beautiful sunny blue sky day! Such a difference from the night before.

We ate an amazing breakfast. It’s so good after the sugary and saturated fatty food of Florida to have some really decent food. We ate amazing exotic fruit and I stuffed myself with chocolate croissants. mmmm! nom nom nom

After brekkie we went to the beach. Rio’s most famous beach is Copacabana (sing along: “At the Copa…Copacabana”…and stop), but we were staying near the nicer, safer and more upmarket area of the city, Ipanema.

Ipanema beach is absolutely stunning!! Probably one of my favourite beaches.

We did some sunbathing and watched ‘The Beautiful People’ go by.

There are loads of salesmen that walk along the beach selling everything from drinks to biscuits to handbags and even kites. The good thing is they don’t bother you at all and will only come to you if you show an interest in what you have to offer. We bought a Matte Leão, an iced tea type of drink.

We took a dip in the cool refreshing Atlantic ocean. The sea is not actually great for swimming because of the large waves near to the shore. However its brilliant for surfing and body boarding, which many people were doing.

In the afternoon, we walked along the beach front before heading into the streets of Ipanema. We walked all the way through to Copacabana beach (sing with me: “At the Copa…Copacabana”), the beach looked much more built up than Ipanema but was still very nice. We headed back to the hotel through the streets of Rio.

In the afternoon after some delicious lunch/dinner we went to the rooftop which has a great pool with some amazing views!

At the pool we sipped on a couple of Caipirinhas, the traditional Brazilian cocktail. We relaxed until sunset where we went back to the beach to see the sunset.

Tomorrow, we go and see some of the sights, can’t wait!!
